I don’t know how many of you frequent the MC Garden and/or the MC Forum, but I’m sorry to report that we lost a giant today.
Merry Brooks / robotunit8 / Harlean / Steph passed away this weekend.
Steph was an absolute stalwart of the MC community. She was a rock, a mother figure, a sane voice no matter how crazy things got. Nearly every single writer who’s ever posted a story to the EMCSA owes her a huge debt for her countless reviews, myself included. Her write-ups were fun, they were funny, and they were as dependable as the day is long. Even when she could justify taking an update off, she just wouldn’t.
She was a talented writer herself, with nearly a hundred stories on the EMCSA. Fun stuff, too. Her stories just made you smile, because they were just flat-out entertaining. Nobody ever got hurt and you just knew she had a good time creating the tale.
Steph is one of the finest people I’ve met since I joined this community. I considered her a friend and I like to think she thought of me in the same way. When I say I will miss her, I’m not speaking in platitudes. I will truly miss her presence on the forums, her humor, her easygoing nature, her emails, her blog. This loss runs deep.

Note- Steph maintained a very entertaining blog for the last 10 years. For anyone interested in taking a look at it, it can found here:
The Thoughts of a Wannabee Robot
(Note- the above link takes you directly to a silly post she made about Chrystal Heights, but she wrote about far more than that.)
